The England manager Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel shared his sadness that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the home fans during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was satisfied to see his team continue their winning momentum, with finishes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the game. Yet, he was not content with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half training days to prepare against a well-trained team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. There was little noise. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a bit more support in moments where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Apart from risking a dispute among fans, the manager also caused a stir by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the move was justified by Rogers impressing again in the attacking midfield role and getting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his place.”
Bellamy Seeks Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a key World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their awful performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this match,” Bellamy said. “I need to see our current level. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and is a concern when the national team play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
